The KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra is set to perform its 2026 World Symphony Spring Season, comprising two concerts, on November 12 and 19 at the Playhouse Opera and Playhouse Drama, respectively. The concerts will feature a selection of popular favourites, with guest artists collaborating with resident musicians. According to Bongani Tembe, KZN Philharmonic's chief executive and artistic director, the orchestra invites music lovers to join them for the exciting Spring Season.

The first concert on November 12 will be conducted by Canadian conductor Jean-Claude Picard and feature renowned pianist Polina Osetinskaya as soloist. The programme includes Sergei Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor and Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5 in E minor. The second concert on November 19 will be led by conductor Christian Schumann and feature Japanese pianist Yu Kosuge as soloist, performing Beethoven's Coriolan Overture, Piano Concerto No. 4 in G major, and Georges Bizet's Symphony in C Major.

Due to the unavailability of the Playhouse Opera for the second concert, the November 19 performance has been relocated to the Playhouse Drama. Reena Makan of KZN Phil explained that seating allocations and ticket categories will be adjusted, with the Drama Theatre having a capacity of almost 500 patrons, compared to the Opera Theatre's capacity of over 1,000.

The KZN Philharmonic's commitments extend beyond mainstage performances, with a focus on community engagement and skills transfer programmes. According to Tembe, the orchestra's seasons complement its ongoing school visits and community outreach initiatives, aimed at reaching new-generation artists and audiences.

Season tickets are available through the KZN Philharmonic office, while individual tickets can be purchased through Quicket. For those preferring not to self-drive, a park and ride bus service will be offered from major arterial points, including Upper Highway, North Coast, Westville, and Berea.

The KZN Philharmonic's Spring Season offers a unique opportunity for music lovers to experience a range of popular favourites, performed by talented musicians. With a focus on community engagement and outreach, the orchestra continues to play a vital role in promoting the arts in KwaZulu-Natal.
