The Chairman of Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State, Hon. Nuhu Majeed Podo, has introduced additional security measures to protect lives and property and address prevailing security challenges in the area. The council has employed 150 security personnel, distributed 50 motorcycles for community surveillance, and upgraded the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) outpost at Alagbado to a full division. A Sienna bus was also donated for patrol operations.
Podo disclosed this while speaking with journalists on the sidelines of the unveiling of his administration’s scorecard for its second year in office. He commended President Bola Tinubu for introducing reforms that had made more funds available for grassroots development. The council chairman also appreciated Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for his support in executing projects across the 11 wards in the local government.
In the education sector, Podo said the council renovated classrooms and principals’ offices in schools, distributed writing materials to reduce educational expenses for parents, and constructed a multipurpose hall at Sheikh Abdul Salam Junior Secondary School, Ilorin. The council also sponsored the education of 30 students at the College of Health Sciences, Osogbo. Furthermore, the council facilitated the renovation of junior secondary schools, including schools in Isale Maliki, Ajibesin, and other communities.
Podo’s administration has also made significant achievements in infrastructure development. The council drilled boreholes and repaired existing ones across the 11 wards. Rural roads were graded, and interlocking works were carried out at 10 locations, including Alangua Okaka, Alangua Tanke, and Ita Amodu. Additionally, the council refurbished seven official vehicles and procured vehicles for the vice chairman, speaker, DPM, treasurer, and legislative arm.
The council chairman received the 2025 Nigerian Local Government Chairmen Merit Award for distributing 17 transformers serving hundreds of communities. Podo attributed the success of his administration to the support of Governor Abdulrazaq and the state government. He emphasized that the council’s efforts aimed to improve the quality of life for residents in the local government area.
During the unveiling of the scorecard, Podo was flanked by the vice chairman, Hon. Joel Mary Abiodun; council secretary, Mohammed Hameed; and speaker of the legislative arm, Hon. Jimoh Taibat Tope. The event showcased the council’s achievements in various sectors, including education, infrastructure, and security. Podo expressed his commitment to continuing the development of the local government area.
