Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has unveiled a Ksh39 billion development programme for Meru County, aiming to transform Meru town into a city by next year. The development programme includes the construction of 21 modern markets across the county, with the Kiirua ESP Market in Buuri now 95 per cent complete and Timau Market nearing completion. Additionally, the government is building 500 hostels at Kiirua Technical Training Institute to provide accommodation for students. Kindiki emphasized that these projects demonstrate the government's commitment to improving infrastructure and services in Meru County.
Kindiki revealed that elders from Mt Kenya have given him a mandate to help unite communities in the region. The elders, who met at Kirigiti Stadium in Kiambu, emphasized the need for a united national outlook and asked for more time to consult with elders across Kenya. Kindiki stated that he will work towards promoting unity and cooperation.
The Deputy President also emphasized his willingness to work with his critics, stating that political differences should not permanently close the door to cooperation. He expressed his focus on delivering projects and helping his critics secure positions in the national government. Kindiki invoked his position as an elder of Njuri Ncheke, stating that he will not engage in insults with his brothers and sisters.
Kindiki criticized his opponents for their lack of a clear agenda, stating that they only shout slogans without providing any reasons for abandoning the current government. He emphasized that the government has a clear vision for Meru County's development, including roads, markets, affordable housing, and education. The Deputy President expressed his confidence in the government's ability to deliver on its promises.
