He urged households and businesses to practice proper waste segregation, avoid indiscriminate dumping, particularly into drains and lagoons, and support the assembly's sanitation efforts. The assembly is committed to strengthening environmental health services, improving waste collection, and enforcing sanitation by-laws.
Meanwhile, Mr. George Freeman, the Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Environmental Health Officer (MEHO), stated that protecting the environment is a shared responsibility requiring everyone's involvement. He emphasized that environmental health encompasses safe drinking water, safe food, proper waste management, clean air, and healthy homes and workplaces. Mr. Freeman also noted that preventable diseases such as cholera, typhoid, and malaria are associated with poor environmental conditions.
Mr. Freeman appealed to residents to apply scientific approaches in their daily activities, such as testing water sources, checking food wholesomeness, and managing waste properly. He stressed the need for an attitudinal change among residents to prioritize environmental conservation.
