King Mohammed VI of Morocco chaired a working session at the Royal Palace in Rabat to review progress on the Nador West Mediterranean port and industrial complex project. The project is expected to enter its first phase of operation soon. The session is an extension of previous working sessions chaired by the King to develop major port projects in the country. The Nador project aims to enhance Morocco's position in logistics, industry, and energy.
The Nador West Mediterranean project is part of Morocco's royal vision to establish an effective port system that enhances the country's competitiveness and supports its positioning in the face of global value chain changes. The project also aims to achieve integration between economic growth and regional development by improving public investment distribution, attracting private capital, and creating new job opportunities. The project is expected to contribute to the development of neighboring areas and enhance local added value.
The project has attracted public and private investments worth 54 billion dirhams so far. The first phase of the container terminal is expected to have a capacity of 3.5 million containers when completed. The second phase is expected to enter service in April 2027 with a capacity of 1.8 million containers. The completion of the two phases will require private investments worth 8 billion dirhams.
The energy component of the project includes the operation of a fuel station with a potential storage capacity of 4 million cubic meters. A natural gas liquefaction station with an annual processing capacity of 5 billion cubic meters is also planned. These investments are part of Morocco's efforts to enhance its energy security, diversify its port infrastructure, and develop its industrial and logistics capabilities.
The Nador West Mediterranean project aims to complement the port offer provided by the Tangier Mediterranean port and enhance Morocco's position in logistics, industry, and energy. The project is expected to support Morocco's attractiveness to investments and reinforce its position as a regional hub for trade and maritime transport.
The King also reviewed progress on the expansion of the Tangier Mediterranean port, which includes the construction of a new port called "Tangier Mediterranean 3". The expansion project aims to enhance the port's capacity and efficiency, supporting Morocco's economic growth and development.
The working session was attended by several officials and stakeholders involved in the project. The King emphasized the importance of the project in enhancing Morocco's position in several fields and contributing to the country's economic growth and development. The project is expected to have a positive impact on the country's economy and reinforce its position as a major player in the region.
