Festus Keyamo, Minister for Aviation and Aerospace Development, has expressed confidence in President Bola Tinubu's chances of winning the 2027 presidential election. According to Keyamo, recent election results from various states have shown a consistent pattern of APC victories across the nation. This, he believes, strongly points to an excellent showing in the 2027 presidential election. Keyamo made these remarks in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Keyamo highlighted the APC's recent wins in bye-elections across three geo-political zones, including North-West, North-East, and South-South. The party won four out of five Federal and State Assembly constituencies in these zones, with the only loss being a State Assembly constituency in Bauchi to the APM. Keyamo described the spread of APC votes across these zones as significant, especially with the general elections approaching.
The Minister also quoted Governor Soludo of Anambra State, a state considered a stronghold of opposition leader Peter Obi. Soludo reportedly praised Tinubu's efforts and criticized Obi's contributions to the Igbo people. Soludo asked what Obi had achieved for the Igbos during his time in politics, particularly regarding the state's infrastructure and erosion issues. Keyamo used Soludo's statement to suggest that the Igbo people would make informed decisions in the 2027 election.
In a related development, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman in Bayelsa State, High Chief Alabh George Turnah, has emphasized the importance of the Nyesom Wike-led Rainbow Coalition in President Tinubu's bid to secure Bayelsa State in the 2027 presidential election. Turnah described the support of the Rainbow Coalition as central and indispensable to Tinubu's victory in the state.
Turnah responded to comments made by the Bayelsa State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Warman Weri Ogoriba, who dismissed the relevance of the Rainbow Coalition. Turnah cited the 2023 presidential election results, which showed that the PDP and Labour Party combined secured more votes than the APC. He argued that these numbers underscored the importance of cross-party mobilisation in the state.
Turnah also noted that the political configuration ahead of the 2027 election had changed considerably, particularly with Peter Obi's move to the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC). He warned that Obi's presence on the NDC platform, coupled with the influence of former Bayelsa governor Seriake Dickson, could impact the presidential contest in Bayelsa. Turnah urged the APC not to assume that its current structure alone would automatically translate into presidential votes.
