The Kenyan government has called on its citizens to support investors and development projects aimed at strengthening the economy through job creation and local enterprise growth. Youth Affairs and Sports Principal Secretary Elijah Mwangi emphasized the importance of backing investments during a development-oriented tour of Kiriani, Mathioya Constituency. He cited the planned Sh2.2 Trillion Dangote East Africa Petroleum Refinery in Lamu County as a major investment expected to drive economic transformation.

The Dangote East Africa Petroleum Refinery, set to begin construction with a groundbreaking ceremony held on September 30, 2026, is expected to have a processing capacity of 700,000 barrels of crude oil per day. The project is anticipated to create approximately 60,000 jobs and stimulate related industries, contributing significantly to the country's economic growth. Mwangi encouraged Kenyans to support efforts aimed at attracting and retaining investors to capitalize on such opportunities.

In addition to the refinery, the government is implementing various interventions to boost economic growth, including infrastructural development projects, construction of modern markets, and affordable housing projects. Agricultural reforms are also underway, with farmers benefiting from subsidized fertilizer, currently retailing at Sh2,000 for a 50-kilogramme bag. Investments in solar dryers for coffee factories, road upgrading, and support for the coffee, dairy, and tea value chains are helping strengthen local enterprises.

The government has completed several projects in the region, including the Kiriani-Mugeka road and is currently constructing the Gakoe market, as well as investing in sports infrastructure and talent identification. The development of stadiums, sports academies, and community grounds is expected to provide young people with opportunities to nurture their talents. Mwangi highlighted that 33 stadiums are under construction, along with 37 sports academies and 12 community grounds.

The government remains committed to delivering on its development agenda, with a focus on implementing projects based on priorities identified by the people. Mwangi emphasized that development and improving the lives of Kenyans is the government's top priority, and they are working to fulfill promises made during the last elections. He encouraged Kenyans to support the Kenya Kwanza government to tap into more development opportunities.

Kenya is also preparing to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament, with contractors working to complete the required facilities. The country is also set to host the World Athletics Championships in 2029. Mwangi confirmed that preparations are progressing well, with contractors working round the clock to ensure the country is ready to host the games.

The government's efforts to attract investments and develop infrastructure are expected to have a positive impact on the country's economy and provide opportunities for its citizens. By supporting investors and development projects, Kenyans can contribute to the country's economic growth and transformation. The government's commitment to delivering on its development agenda is seen as a key factor in driving this growth.
