In a remarkable display of community support, the parents of late Kenyan pilot Alex Oluka have been presented with a newly built home just days before his burial. Teso North MP Oku Kaunya announced the handover of the single-storey bungalow, which was completed in a record 14 days. The house, funded by contributions from well-wishers, was built ahead of Oluka's burial scheduled for Friday, October 9, 2026. The project was undertaken to fulfill one of Oluka's dreams of building a home for his parents.

The bungalow features walls of machine-cut brown stone with dark grey-blue trim, a hipped roof of maroon iron sheets, and a covered front veranda supported by white pillars. The interior is fitted with cream tiles, dark grey sofas, and wooden coffee tables. A framed portrait of Oluka in his pilot's uniform was placed on the windowsill in the sitting room. The exterior also boasts a newly constructed permanent pit latrine. The house was designed to provide a comfortable living space for Oluka's parents.

Alex Oluka died on September 18, 2026, when a training aircraft crashed in Kipeto, Kajiado West Constituency, killing both men on board. Oluka was conducting a routine training flight with a student pilot when the aircraft went down in hilly terrain near the Kipeto Wind Power Project. He had graduated from the Kenya School of Flying on August 22, 2026, just 27 days before his death. His graduation was marked by an airshow over Kajiado County.

During the airshow, Oluka's mother had the rare opportunity to fly over the county alongside her son. This memory now carries a particular weight following the crash. Kaunya described Oluka as the constituency's pioneer pilot under the National Government Constituencies Development Fund programme, adding that his exceptional graduation performance had earned him an appointment as a flight instructor shortly before his death.

The construction of the house was made possible through the generosity of well-wishers who contributed funds, building materials, and labour. MP Oku Kaunya expressed gratitude to everyone who supported the project, saying, "Your generosity has made this possible within a very short time. Alex has departed, but his dream lives on." The handover of the house was a testament to the community's support for Oluka's family.

Kaunya noted that building a home for his parents had been one of Oluka's personal ambitions. "Alex had a dream of building a home for his parents. Though he did not live to fulfil this dream, we are grateful that partially it has now become a reality through the generosity of well-wishers," the MP said. The project brought solace to Oluka's family ahead of his burial.

The burial of Captain Alex Oluka was scheduled to take place on Friday, October 9, 2026. With the handover of the new home, Oluka's family was able to find some comfort in the community's support. The story of Oluka's dream and the community's efforts to fulfill it serves as a tribute to the late pilot and his legacy.
