The Refugee Youth Education Hub, a non-profit organization providing education programs for displaced communities in Kenya, has been shortlisted for the 2026 Global EdTech prize. The organization, which aims to advance education, livelihoods, protection, and long-term solutions for displaced youth and communities in Kenya, was recognized for its innovative solutions in education. This prestigious global prize is part of T4 Education, a platform that brings together over 200,000 teachers from more than 100 countries to transform education.

The 2026 Global EdTech prize recognizes stakeholders using technology to make a real difference to teachers and learners. Vikas Pota, CEO of T4 Education, noted that the 30 finalists represent some of the most interesting work happening in EdTech today. The prize also acknowledges the finalists' roles in supporting displaced and underserved learners and rethinking assessment, literacy, personalized learning, and the role of AI in Education.

As a finalist, the Refugee Youth Education Hub will attend the World Schools Summit in January 2027, where they will showcase their innovation before leading experts and educators. The organization's CEO, Abdullahi Mire, expressed his honor in representing the world's most marginalized community, refugees and their hosts. He emphasized his goal of providing refugee students with the right gadgets and skills to be on par with the rest of the world.

Abdullahi Mire highlighted the technological gaps in refugee camps, which struggle to meet basic needs due to aid cuts and shrinking donor funding. Despite these challenges, Mire aims to bridge the digital divide and provide equal opportunities for refugee students. The Refugee Youth Education Hub's Digital Innovation Hub provides young people with digital skills, confidence, and new pathways to opportunity.

Anne Wanjiku Thuku, Partnerships and Fundraising Lead at RYEH, expressed her pride in witnessing the journey of young people gaining digital skills and new opportunities. She emphasized the importance of the movement in opening doors and changing lives. The World Schools Summit will feature an Expert Panel comprising leading figures in technology and education, who will narrow down the finalists to three per category.

The final three nominees in each category will present their products and tools before educators at the World Schools Summit, who will then vote by secret ballot to determine the winner. The winners will be announced live on stage at the culmination of the summit. This prestigious recognition is a testament to the Refugee Youth Education Hub's innovative approach to education and its impact on displaced communities.
