Kenya Power has announced a scheduled maintenance exercise set for Tuesday, September 22, which will result in electricity outages across nine counties. The affected counties include Nairobi, Kiambu, Nyeri, Uasin Gishu, Kisumu, Embu, Kitui, Kilifi, and Mombasa. According to the utility firm, the power interruption will run from 9am to 5pm, giving residents and businesses an eight-hour period during which power supply will be unavailable.
The maintenance exercise is part of Kenya Power's routine network maintenance operations. The company expressed regret over any inconvenience the exercise may cause to customers in the affected regions. Kenya Power carries out periodic planned outages as part of efforts to upgrade, repair, and service its distribution network. This ensures a reliable power supply to customers in the long run.
In Nairobi County, areas affected by the outage include parts of Karen Bogani and Gachie. Specifically, the outage will affect customers on Bogani Road, Kumbe Road, Baobab Estate, and adjacent areas, as well as those on Gachie, Waiver Bird, Kinanda Road, Kihara Road, and adjacent customers. Residents in these areas are advised to make alternative arrangements for power-dependent activities during the stated hours.
Other counties affected by the outage include Uasin Gishu, where areas such as Kapkoi, Bayete, and Cheptiret will experience power interruptions. In Kisumu County, Guba Market and adjacent customers will be affected. Nyeri County will also experience outages in areas such as Tree Tops, Expages, and Mweiga. Embu County will have outages in Mutuobare, Kiambere, and other adjacent areas.
Kiambu County will experience power interruptions in Lower Kabete Market, Kingeero, and adjacent areas. Kitui County will have outages in Migwani, Nzeluni, and Kyome. Kilifi County will be affected in parts of Mariakani, including Msumbini Primary, Msumbini Village, and Mariakani Town. Mombasa County will experience outages in parts of Jomvu, including Ufuta, Weldcom, and Southern Shipping.
In other news, 426 graduate engineers have completed a four-month intensive classroom training at the Institute of Energy Studies and Research. The engineers, including 328 electrical engineering specialists, will now begin a five-month regional field rotation across the country. Kenya Power is deploying the young professionals as it modernises and digitises a grid serving more than 10 million customers.
The scheduled maintenance exercise is expected to improve the reliability and efficiency of Kenya Power's distribution network. Customers in the affected areas are advised to plan accordingly and make necessary arrangements for alternative power sources during the outage period. The exercise is part of Kenya Power's efforts to provide a stable and reliable power supply to its customers across the country.
