Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has announced electricity interruptions across seven counties on Thursday, September 24. The outages will result in at least eight-hour outages across the listed regions and their neighborhoods. According to KPLC, power interruptions are in line with Rule 27 of the Electric Power Rules that allows periodic disruptions to facilitate maintenance and upgrades of power lines to the network.
Residents and businesses in the affected areas, including Nairobi and Kiambu, were urged to plan ahead to avoid inconvenience. The areas that will experience power cuts have been listed, with specific regions and time frames provided. In Kiambu, areas such as Ndumbuini, Part of Kinoo 87, Ndumbuini Market, UON Kabete Vet, Uthiru 87, Uthiru Girls, Njathaini, Kanyariri Market, and Kanyariri Police will be affected from 9 am to 5 pm.
In Nairobi, parts of Kitsuru and Karen will experience power outages from 9 am to 5 pm. The affected areas in Kitsuru include Tate Close, Kitsuru Road, and Forward Close. In Karen, areas such as Ololua Close, West Wood Road, Kerapon Road, Mwitu Estate, Mutero PCEA, Mutero Estates, Karen Police Station, Karen Hub, Windy Ridge, Ngong View Estate, Karen Roses, Tree Lane, Shell Petrol Station Karen Shopping Centre, Kerarapon Shell, Eagles Church, Karen Community Church, and Total Petrol Station will be affected.
Other counties that will experience power outages include Nyeri, Mombasa, Kericho, and Narok. In Nyeri, areas such as Gatarakwa Girls, Bellevue, Kabendera Primary School, Kabendera Market, Bellevue Market, Gatarakwa Market, and Gatarakwa Girls will be affected. In Mombasa, areas such as Bamburi, Utange, Kiembeni, Utange, Masai Utange, Joho Secondary School, Utange Gorofani, Afro Estate, Nimrod Taabu, Wema Centre, Palestina, Bamburi Kiembeni Junction, Pretro City, Bamburi Mwisho, Stage ya Paka, Kerav Estate, Lake View, Bashir, Bustani Estate, Nairobi Estate, Naivas Bamburi, Masters, Kadzandani, Matingasi, Fisheries, Alfa Hospital, and Kenya Projects will experience power outages.
In Kericho, parts of Bureti will experience power outages from 8:30 am to 5 pm, affecting areas such as Ngoinaroad Market, Kabartega School, Kaminjeiwet School, Botony School, and DC Residence. In Narok, parts of Ololunga and Mulot will be affected from 9 am to 5 pm, with areas such as Ololunga Town, Megenyu Market, Oleshapani Market, Sogam Market, Nkorinkori Market, Lemek Market, Aitong Market, Sogoo Market, Tendwet Market, Kimogoro Market, Mulot Market, Baraka Market, Kipturgut Market, Kutete Market, Olmirani Market, Olchoro Market, and Melelo Market experiencing power outages.
The Kenya Meteorological Department has also issued a 24-hour weather forecast for September 24, including expected rainfall across 16 counties. The forecast covers enhanced rainfall in western Kenya and strong winds in parts of the northern and coastal regions. Residents in Kakamega, Bungoma, and Vihiga face the prospect of heavier showers, while wind speeds could exceed 25 knots in counties such as Turkana, Marsabit, and Lamu.
The detailed county-level outlook also identified Mandera as the hottest area and Nyandarua as the coolest in the forecast data. Residents in the affected areas are advised to plan ahead and take necessary precautions to minimize the impact of the power outages and inclement weather.
