The Kenyan government has extended the deadline for health facilities to migrate to approved digital health management systems. Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale announced that the new deadline is November 30, 2026, giving facilities yet to complete the transition more time to move from the Social Health Authority (SHA) Provider Portal to Digital Health Agency (DHA)-certified Health Management Information Systems (HMIS). This decision follows consultations between the Ministry of Health, SHA, and DHA, as well as requests from healthcare providers.
According to Duale, all 6,427 public Level 2–4 facilities have successfully migrated, representing 100 per cent completion. However, only 22 of the 28 public Level 5 facilities have completed the transition, representing 79 per cent. Faith-Based Organisation facilities are significantly behind, with only 190 of 518 facilities having migrated, representing 37 per cent. Additionally, 371 private facilities have successfully migrated. The Ministry of Health is working to ensure that all facilities complete the migration process.
Duale warned that facilities that fail to migrate by the final deadline risk disruptions to essential SHA processes, including service verification, pre-authorisation, and claims submission and processing. The disruption could affect how facilities verify services and submit claims under the Social Health Authority framework. Healthcare facilities that have not completed the migration are urged to use the extended period to prepare their systems before access to the SHA Provider Portal is switched off.
The Digital Health Agency continues to offer technical assistance to help healthcare providers complete the transition. The support includes HMIS onboarding, system integration, troubleshooting, user training, and coordination with HMIS vendors. This technical support aims to ensure a smooth transition to the new digital health management systems.
The extension of the deadline is intended to allow facilities that have not completed the migration to finalise the process. Duale said the SHA Provider Portal will be deactivated effective November 30, 2026, making the new date the final deadline for the transition. Healthcare facilities are expected to complete the migration to avoid any disruptions to their services.
Public facilities have made significant progress in the migration process, with all lower-level public facilities completing the transition. However, Faith-Based Organisation facilities and private facilities still have a significant amount of work to do to complete the migration. The Ministry of Health is working to support these facilities in completing the transition.
The migration to digital health management systems is part of the Kenyan government's efforts to improve healthcare services. The new systems will enable healthcare facilities to verify services and submit claims more efficiently. The government is working to ensure that all healthcare facilities have the necessary support to complete the transition and improve healthcare services in Kenya.
