The Karnati with a Big Heart Foundation has announced plans to expand its free medical outreach programme to other parts of Niger State. This decision follows a successful intervention in Minna, the state capital, where 2,000 residents received medical services. The foundation's President and Founder, Comrade Musa Abubakar, revealed this during the seventh medical outreach and palliative programme in Minna. The programme provided medical screening, consultations, and medication for various health conditions.
The outreach in Minna was a pilot programme aimed at reaching underserved communities across the state. The foundation is committed to complementing government efforts in healthcare delivery, particularly for residents who cannot afford medical services. The programme included medical screening, consultations, and medication for health conditions such as eye problems, cataracts, diabetes, and high blood pressure. Patients requiring specialised treatment were referred for further medical attention.
The Karnati Foundation was established in 2019 in response to humanitarian challenges faced by communities during the COVID-19 pandemic. The foundation began distributing relief materials and providing medical assistance during this period. According to Abubakar, the decision to start the intervention in Minna was informed by the need to give back to the community where the foundation has its roots.
The foundation's humanitarian interventions are driven by the conviction that individuals and organisations can make meaningful contributions to society, regardless of their financial capacity. Abubakar stated that the organisation intends to extend its activities to other parts of the state, with plans to reach out to other senatorial districts. This expansion aims to touch the lives of communities and provide essential healthcare services.
A sponsor of the programme, Bala Muhammad Suleiman, emphasised the need for partnerships between non-governmental organisations and private foundations to address healthcare challenges. Suleiman stressed that good health is essential to community development and urged residents to seek medical attention at health facilities whenever they experience health problems.
Beneficiaries of the programme, including Rabbi Doko and Ibrahim Hassan Abdul, commended the organisers for the arrangements and described the screening, medical consultations, and distribution of prescribed drugs as well organised. Doko received medical attention for an eye problem without paying, while also having her blood pressure checked during the exercise.
The Founder of the Karnati Foundation thanked the Niger State Government, the Emir of Minna, donors, sponsors, and volunteers for supporting the foundation's humanitarian activities. The foundation's efforts aim to provide essential healthcare services to underserved communities, and its expansion plans will likely benefit many more residents across Niger State.
