The president of the Kaolack departmental council, Ahmed Youssouph Bengelloune, recently visited the rehabilitated sanitary blocks at the Nouveau Lycée in Kaolack. The project aimed to address concerns raised by parents and the school community regarding the state of hygiene facilities. The council's efforts focus on improving the education sector, with a particular emphasis on hygiene and accessibility.

The rehabilitation work involved two sanitary blocks, each with 10 boxes, and included the installation of water points. The facilities have been designed to cater to students with disabilities, with one box adapted for people with reduced mobility. This development is expected to enhance the overall learning environment and promote inclusivity within the school.

According to Bengelloune, the council's initiatives prioritize education and health, recognizing their critical role in social development. He stressed that proper hygiene facilities are essential for students' well-being and academic performance. The rehabilitation of the sanitary blocks is also seen as a step towards addressing the specific challenges faced by female students during their menstrual periods.

The absence of functional toilets had previously led to absenteeism among female students during these periods. The newly rehabilitated facilities are expected to encourage girls to stay in school and promote equity among students. Bengelloune appealed to students, teachers, and administrative staff to take responsibility for maintaining the facilities to ensure their longevity.

A representative from the Direction des constructions scolaires, attending the event on behalf of the Kaolack academy inspector, praised the council's initiative. The representative emphasized that the project aligns with the responsibilities of local authorities in the education sector. He also highlighted the importance of maintaining the facilities, citing instances where newly constructed infrastructure had fallen into disrepair due to neglect.

The representative announced that plans are underway to upgrade various school buildings in the region, with estimates and proposals already submitted for consideration. The proviseur of the Nouveau Lycée, Mamadou Lamine Camara, welcomed the council's support and noted that the project demonstrates a clear understanding of the decentralized education sector's responsibilities.

Camara emphasized that the new facilities will improve learning conditions and preserve students' dignity. The project has been well-received by the school community, with 142 people reading the article on iGFM.
