The Egyptian National Media Authority has announced the establishment of a specialized unit dedicated to using artificial intelligence to improve video quality. This unit, launched under the leadership of Ahmed El-Maslamani, aims to enhance the audio and visual quality of content produced by the authority. By leveraging AI technology, the unit seeks to modernize the presentation of the authority's vast media archive in line with contemporary digital standards.

The newly formed unit focuses on processing and enhancing audio-visual materials to improve their quality. This process involves addressing technical issues associated with older content while preserving the original essence and identity of the material. According to El-Maslamani, this initiative aligns with the authority's efforts to utilize AI and modern technologies in content development. The project is also in line with directives from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to preserve and digitize the media archive.

The creation of the AI unit is part of a broader strategy to harness modern technologies in content creation and enhancement. El-Maslamani highlighted that the unit will collaborate with recent graduates from journalism and media studies, particularly those from the 2026 batch. This collaboration is facilitated through a protocol between the National Media Authority and Cairo University's School of Journalism, aiming to empower young talent with the skills needed to work with cutting-edge technologies in content processing and development.

Egypt's National Media Authority boasts a significant archive of audio-visual content that represents a crucial part of the country's cultural and media heritage. El-Maslamani emphasized that preserving this legacy not only involves digitization but also the use of modern technologies to re-present it in a manner befitting its value and suitable for digital platforms. The authority prioritizes the development of its digital channels, particularly the "Maspero Atfal" channel, to offer high-quality content that aligns with the expectations of modern audiences.

The upcoming phase will see the expansion of the AI unit's work to include more children's programs and selected pieces from the authority's archive. This will be done based on artistic priorities and publication plans, with content gradually made available on the authority's digital platforms. This initiative aims to strengthen the presence of Egyptian content and maintain its cultural value and identity among new generations.

One of the unit's first projects is the popular animated series "Baker," which is currently being enhanced using AI technology. The series' episodes are being upgraded from standard definition (SD) to near 4K quality, significantly improving the visual experience. Additionally, audio processing techniques are being applied to enhance sound quality, ensuring a better viewing and listening experience while maintaining the original content's integrity.

The launch of the AI unit and the enhancement of "Baker" in 4K technology mark the beginning of a new phase in content development at the National Media Authority. This move is expected to set a precedent for future projects aimed at modernizing and improving the quality of Egyptian media content. By embracing AI and digital technologies, the authority seeks to engage new audiences and present Egypt's rich media heritage in a contemporary and appealing manner.
