The joint security forces in Kano State have warned that they will arrest and prosecute Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II and Aminu Ado Bayero if they engage in any actions that breach the peace in the state. This warning was issued after an emergency meeting on the security situation in the state. The forces vowed to enforce the embargo on horse riding and durbar activities in Kano, which was put in place to maintain law and order.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, addressed journalists on Friday and stated that the executive order restricting horse riding and durbar activities remains in force. He emphasized that the order is binding on all persons in the state, regardless of their status or position. The joint security forces have observed recent developments that could disrupt law and order and have warned that further violations will not be tolerated.

The security warning was prompted by a recent royal procession by Emir Aminu Ado Bayero, which allegedly led to the destruction of public property, including political banners belonging to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. The police confirmed that five persons were arrested in connection with the incident. The procession led to a breakdown of public order and triggered public tension.

On Thursday, Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II displayed a royal procession on a white horse while leading hundreds of supporters to the 66th Independence Anniversary celebration at the Sani Abacha Stadium. This was seen as a violation of the restriction on horse riding, sparking a reaction from Emir Aminu Ado Bayero's camp, which threatened to embark on a full-blown durbar.

The threat from Bayero's camp prompted a fresh directive from the security forces, which insisted that they would not allow any act capable of breaching the peace and jeopardizing public safety. The joint security forces have resolved to maintain strict compliance with the government's ban on horse riding and durbar activities in the state.

To ensure adequate security coverage, the Joint Security Meeting has made it mandatory for any institution or organization that plans to undertake durbar and/or horse or animal-riding activities in public places to give at least 72 hours' prior written notice to the Kano State Police Command. This will enable the command to conduct a security assessment and make arrangements to ensure public safety.

The joint security forces are working to strengthen security coordination and maintain law and order in Kano State. The warning to Emir Sanusi II and Emir Bayero is clear: any actions that breach the peace will be met with arrest and prosecution. The situation remains tense, with the security forces on high alert to prevent any further disruptions.
