The successful candidate will be responsible for providing first- and second-level technical support to ensure the reliable and effective operation of end-user IT systems and services. The role focuses on maintaining a stable user computing environment, resolving technical issues, supporting technology deployments, and contributing to the continuous improvement of IT service delivery. The position is based in Jinja, Uganda.
The System Support Officer will be responsible for incident and service support, including diagnosing and resolving technical incidents and service requests within agreed SLAs. They will also provide systems and application support, installing, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting desktops, laptops, operating systems, Microsoft 365/Office, and approved business applications. Additionally, the officer will provide hardware and peripheral support, diagnosing and resolving faults affecting computers, printers, scanners, UPS units, and other IT peripherals.
The successful candidate will also be responsible for network and access support, troubleshooting LAN/WLAN connectivity, TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, domain login, and user profiles and access-related issues. They will escalate infrastructure faults where necessary and support endpoint security, patching, and compliance with approved IT configurations. The officer will also carry out scheduled preventive maintenance of IT equipment and participate in equipment deployments, system upgrades, site installations, and other IT infrastructure and technology projects.
To qualify for the position, applicants must have a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field. They must also have 3-5 years of relevant hands-on experience in IT technical support within a corporate or similar environment. Strong practical knowledge of Windows client operating systems, Microsoft 365, computer hardware/peripherals, Active Directory, core networking, and endpoint security is required.
The ideal candidate will have ITIL Foundation, Microsoft, CompTIA, CCNA, or equivalent relevant certification. They must possess strong technical troubleshooting, fault isolation, and problem-solving skills, as well as effective communication and user-support skills. The ability to prioritize incidents, take ownership, and escalate appropriately is also essential. Good technical documentation and reporting skills are required, and the officer must be able to work independently and collaboratively within a technical team.
