A 62-year-old man has been arrested in Kajiado County after detectives found him with four children in a bedsitter in Isinya, prompting investigations into suspected child trafficking and defilement. The suspect, Enock Peterson Mwangi, alias Mwamburi Mwandeme, was apprehended at Korompoi Trading Centre following an intelligence-led operation, according to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

The children, aged 17, 16, five and one year and four months, were found in the suspect’s company, leading detectives to investigate how they came to be under his custody. The DCI stated that the discovery immediately triggered deeper investigations into the circumstances under which the children came to be in his custody.

Detectives later searched a house associated with the suspect in Mashuuru Township, where they recovered an assortment of items, including bags filled with children’s clothing for both boys and girls. The clothing ranged from newborn to teenage sizes. Officers also found baby shawls, blankets, a baby carrier and baby shoes of different sizes.

The search also uncovered several adult male clothes, ranging from size 34 to 54, which were reportedly arranged on clothes hangers. Other items recovered included six mattresses, empty diaper carrier bags, duvets, pillows and assorted foodstuffs. The DCI added that the search further uncovered these items, which raised more questions about the suspect's intentions.

The suspect remains in custody as detectives investigate the circumstances surrounding the children’s presence with him and examine the items recovered during the search.
