Kaduna state is experiencing a surge in sports development, with the state hosting several major sporting events and investing in sporting infrastructure under Governor Senator Uba Sani's administration. The state is currently hosting the Super Sand Eagles' 23-day training camp, as well as two international friendly matches against Senegal on October 2nd and 4th, 2026, and the CAF Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Ghana on October 10, 2026.
The programme, which runs from September 21st to October 14th, 2026, is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Kaduna's capacity to host major national and international sporting events. One of the major projects is the complete reconstruction of Ahmadu Bello Stadium, which has seen its spectator capacity increase from 16,000 to 33,000. Additionally, the Kaduna Township Stadium, formerly known as Ranchers Bees Stadium, has undergone comprehensive renovation under Governor Uba Sani's administration.
According to Mallam Hassan Buba, director of sports development, Governor Uba Sani's commitment to sports development in Kaduna is evident in the investments in infrastructure and support for sporting activities. He noted that the increasing number of major sporting events in Kaduna is an indication of growing confidence in the state, particularly due to the improved security situation. The hosting of major competitions demonstrates that Kaduna is a suitable destination for sporting activities.
Mr. Sunday Okaye, Team Coordinator of the Super Sand Eagles of Nigeria, expressed appreciation to Governor Uba Sani and the Kaduna State Government for their support and warm reception. He commended the state government for creating a conducive environment for the team's training camp and international engagements, describing the support as a positive demonstration of Kaduna's commitment to sports and the success of the national team.
Victor Tale, captain of the Super Sand Eagles, also expressed gratitude to Governor Uba Sani for the support and hospitality extended to the team. He said the players were in high spirits and fully focused on their preparations, noting that the training camp was providing the needed environment to build fitness, cohesion, and confidence ahead of the international fixtures.
