Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, has signed a supplementary budget of ₦63.478 billion for the state and its 27 local government councils for the 2026 fiscal year. The governor signed the appropriation bill after the Jigawa State House of Assembly passed it into law. This move aims to ensure due process in public expenditure and enable the government to deliver more projects and programmes across the state.

The supplementary budget provides ₦46.369 billion for the state and ₦17.109 billion for the 27 local government councils. This brings the combined additional appropriation to ₦63.478 billion. The initial 2026 state budget stood at ₦901.84 billion, while the 27 local government councils had a combined budget of ₦288.85 billion. The additional funds will create more opportunities for the state government and local councils to implement projects and programmes.

According to Governor Namadi, the supplementary appropriation became necessary following additional revenue accrued to the state. The funds were presented to the House of Assembly for legislative approval in line with constitutional provisions. The programmes under his administration’s 13-point agenda aim to improve public service delivery and the socio-economic wellbeing of residents.

The Speaker of the House of Assembly, Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin, said the legislature had reviewed the supplementary budget and made necessary adjustments to ensure compliance with public expenditure requirements. The House Committee on Appropriation, led by Chairman Ibrahim Hamza Adamu, expressed satisfaction with the implementation of the initial budget.

Chairman Adamu stated that the additional appropriation would further strengthen public service delivery, particularly in the education and health sectors. These sectors are critical areas that require attention. The House will strengthen its oversight functions to ensure that projects and programmes captured in the budget are implemented as appropriated.

Governor Namadi charged ministries and departments to ensure full implementation of the supplementary budget to promote sustainable development in the state. The government aims to improve public service delivery and the socio-economic wellbeing of residents through the programmes under its 13-point agenda.

The passage of the supplementary budget bill marks a significant step towards enhancing public expenditure and service delivery in Jigawa State. The government’s efforts to ensure due process and implementation of projects and programmes will be closely monitored by the House of Assembly.
