The Jigawa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has initiated a fresh strategy to regain the three National Assembly seats in the Jigawa Central Senatorial District currently held by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 general elections. This move was disclosed by Governor Umar Namadi at an APC stakeholders' meeting in Miga Local Government Area of the state.

Governor Namadi, represented by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin, stated that a four-man committee had been set up to develop strategies for reclaiming the senatorial and two House of Representatives seats lost to the PDP in the 2023 elections. The committee members include the Speaker, Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Malam Bala Ibrahim, Chief of Staff, Government House, Senator Mustapha Makama Kiyawa, and Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Ibrahim Babangida Umar Gantsa.

According to Dangyatin, the committee has started its work, engaging in contacts and consultations across the senatorial district to mobilize party members and stakeholders ahead of the 2027 elections. The exercise aims to bring together party leaders from polling units, wards, and local government areas to strengthen unity, grassroots mobilization, and coordination within the APC. The committee members were selected due to their political experience, grassroots mobilization capacity, and knowledge of the state's political terrain.

Dangyatin noted that the APC has continued to gain momentum through the defection of opposition politicians and their supporters into its fold. He cited the recent defection of a former Jahun Local Government Council chairman, a former House of Representatives candidate, and hundreds of PDP supporters to the APC as evidence of the party's growing strength. He urged residents of Miga and other parts of the district to vote massively for APC candidates in the 2027 elections.

The Speaker attributed the APC's defeat in the district in the 2023 elections to internal disagreements within the party. However, he stated that the ongoing consultations and mobilization would help reconcile members, heal past wounds, and restore unity within the party ahead of 2027. The administration of Governor Namadi has implemented several projects and programs aimed at improving the lives of the people, including road infrastructure, education, skills acquisition, and employment opportunities.

The state APC Chairman, Ahmed Garba Maikudi, represented by his deputy, Nasiru Dahiru Jahun, commended party leaders in the district for embarking on consultations with the electorate ahead of the elections. Jahun also called for political stability and adherence to the principle of allowing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to complete two terms in office. He emphasized the importance of supporting the South to complete its eight-year tenure, just as the South supported northern leadership in the past.

The APC's efforts to reclaim the National Assembly seats are part of its broader strategy to consolidate power in Jigawa State. With the 2027 general elections approaching, the party is working to strengthen its grassroots and present a united front against the PDP. The outcome of these efforts will likely have significant implications for the state's political landscape.
