The Jigawa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has formed a four-man strategic committee to reclaim three National Assembly seats in Jigawa Central Senatorial District currently held by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The committee, headed by Speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin, aims to develop strategies for mobilising voters and strengthening the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Governor Umar Namadi announced the formation of the committee while addressing APC stakeholders in Miga Local Government Area of the state. The governor, represented by Dangyatin, stated that the APC is determined to regain the senatorial and two House of Representatives seats lost to the PDP in the 2023 general elections. The committee will embark on consultations across the senatorial district to mobilise party leaders and grassroots supporters.
The committee members include Secretary to the State Government, Malam Bala Ibrahim; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Senator Mustapha Makama Kiyawa; and Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Ibrahim Babangida Umar Gantsa. Dangyatin stated that the committee will engage party leaders at the polling unit, ward, and local government levels to restore unity and strengthen grassroots mobilisation.
Dangyatin attributed the APC's defeat in the district during the 2023 elections to internal disagreements. He stated that the ongoing consultations will help reconcile members and rebuild the party's unity. The Speaker also cited the recent defection of opposition politicians and their supporters to the APC, indicating that the party is gaining momentum.
The APC chairman in the state, Ahmed Garba Maikudi, commended party leaders in the district for beginning early mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections. Maikudi's deputy, Nasiru Dahiru Jahun, represented him at the event. Jahun called on Nigerians, particularly those in the North, to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's bid to complete two terms in office.
Jahun argued that the North should allow the South to complete its eight-year tenure, just as northern leaders had previously enjoyed the support of southern political leaders. He warned that disrupting the established political arrangement could create discontent and further tension in the country's political environment.
Dangyatin urged the people of Miga and other communities in the district to vote massively for APC candidates in the 2027 elections. He highlighted the Namadi administration's projects and programmes in the area, including road construction, education, skills acquisition, and employment opportunities.
