JESA, a major player in project delivery and integrated solutions in Morocco and Africa, has been tasked with assisting Senegal's Réseau Gazier du Sénégal S.A. (RGS), a subsidiary of Petrosen Holding, in developing and preparing for the exploitation of the country's future national natural gas transportation network. The infrastructure, spanning nearly 400 km, aims to connect Senegal's offshore gas resources to its power generation centers and industrial zones.
The project is part of Senegal's national strategies "Gas to Power" and "Gas to Industry", which aim to utilize the country's gas resources to boost economic development and industrialization. The network will enable the transportation of natural gas from the Grand Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) field, developed jointly with Mauritania, to various industrial and power generation facilities. This initiative is expected to enhance Senegal's energy security and support its economic growth.
JESA will act as the lead consultant and coordinator of a consortium that includes OMCo, a subsidiary of Morocco's Office National des Hydrocarbures et des Mines (ONHYM), and Antea Group France. The consortium will provide assistance to RGS during the development, construction, commissioning, and operation phases of the network. This assistance will cover technical and operational aspects, including project management, technical supervision, and risk management.
A ceremony marking the laying of the first pipeline section of the Northern Segment was held on September 10, 2026, in Saint-Louis, presided over by Senegal's Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Dr. El Hadji Abdourahmane Diouf. This event signifies a major milestone in the implementation of the project. The network is being developed by RGS SA, a company owned by Petrosen Holding (51%), Fonsis (39%), and Senelec (10%).
Omar Benjelloun, Managing Director of JESA West Africa, emphasized the importance of this project, highlighting the mobilization of complementary African expertise to support a national priority. He also reiterated JESA's commitment to contributing to the development of energy infrastructure in West Africa, promoting industrialization, competitiveness, and regional integration.
Abderrahim Ben Elhirche, Senior Executive Director of Energy at JESA, stressed the responsibility of the consortium in securing each stage of the program, combining technical rigor, interface management, risk control, and anticipation of future operating conditions. The goal is to prepare not only the network's realization but also its sustainable performance, availability, and integrity throughout its lifecycle.
The successful implementation of this project is expected to have a positive impact on Senegal's economy and energy sector, enabling the country to harness its gas resources effectively and sustainably. The development of the national gas network is a significant step towards achieving Senegal's energy and economic development goals.
