The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has lifted its ban on SIM swapping and email address changes for candidates. This move aims to assist candidates who have lost access to their registered credentials. Under the new policy, candidates can update their details through a verification process that protects their profiles from unauthorized access. The policy change takes effect on September 21, 2026.
Previously, JAMB prohibited SIM swapping and email changes due to security concerns. However, with advancements in identity authentication and biometric verification systems, the board has reviewed its policy. This review allows candidates to update their GSM numbers and email addresses while maintaining the integrity of their records. The change is expected to ease difficulties faced by candidates who have lost access to their registered credentials.
The new arrangement will operate under strict authentication procedures to prevent impersonation, fraud, and unauthorized alterations of candidates' records. Candidates will be allowed to change their registered details only once. The service will be available exclusively at designated JAMB Computer-Based Test (CBT) Centres and state offices where applicable. Candidates must provide a new GSM number and/or email address, along with a duly executed court affidavit.
To access the SIM swap and/or email change service, candidates must follow a seven-step procedure. First, they log into their e-Facility profile using existing credentials. They then select 'SIM Swap/eMail Change Payment' from the menu and pay the prescribed fee. After payment, candidates proceed to a designated JAMB CBT Centre and access the SIM Swap/eMail Change Quicklink.
At the CBT Centre, candidates enter their profile code or existing GSM number and select 'Fetch Details'. This is followed by biometric verification, after which they select the required service – GSM number only, email address only, or both. Candidates then enter the new GSM number and/or email address and upload the scanned court affidavit before clicking 'Update' to complete the process.
A confirmation message will be displayed once the update is successfully completed. JAMB's Acting Director, Public Affairs and Protocols, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, announced the policy change in a statement. The board aims to ensure that genuine candidates are not disadvantaged by circumstances beyond their control. The reviewed policy is expected to provide relief to candidates who have faced difficulties due to lost or inaccessible credentials.
The development is significant for candidates who have been unable to use their credentials for subsequent Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) processes. JAMB emphasized that the concession will operate under strict authentication procedures to prevent fraud and unauthorized alterations. The board's move is expected to ease the difficulties faced by candidates and ensure a smoother process for updating registered details.
