Iran has presented three conditions to the United States to end the conflict between the two nations that began in February 2026. According to Mohsen Rezaei, Secretary of the Iranian Supreme National Security Council, the conditions were transmitted to Washington through Qatar. Rezaei announced the development in an exclusive interview with Al Jazeera on Saturday. He stated that Tehran is now awaiting a response from US President Donald Trump.
The conditions presented by Iran include the cessation of hostilities on all fronts, the unfreezing of Iranian assets abroad, and the lifting of the US naval blockade. Rezaei emphasized that it is in the interest of Washington to accept these conditions, warning that Trump's threats would not achieve any results. He stated that Iran is prepared for a "decisive war" if necessary. Rezaei assumed his current position about a month ago.
Rezaei did not rule out the possibility of a new US strike, which he considered "quite possible." He revealed that Iran has modified its military planning to prioritize targeting US naval assets deployed in the Gulf, the Gulf of Oman, and the Arabian Sea. Rezaei claimed that Iran recently tested a multi-warhead anti-ship missile near a US aircraft carrier.
On the nuclear issue, Rezaei warned that Iran's doctrine could evolve. While Tehran remains committed to a fatwa by the former Supreme Leader banning nuclear weapons, Rezaei stated that US and Israeli actions give Iran the right to withdraw from the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT). However, he clarified that no decision has been made to do so, and it depends entirely on Washington's behavior.
Rezaei's statements add to growing internal pressure on the nuclear issue. A group of Iranian parliamentarians prepared a draft emergency law in early September calling for withdrawal from the NPT. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors voted on September 9 to refer the Iranian nuclear dossier to the UN Security Council.
Rezaei also touched on the parallel conflict in Yemen, calling for an end to hostilities between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis. He accused Trump of miscalculating his position on Iran and blamed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for triggering the war.
The development comes as indirect negotiations between Iran and the US, mediated by Qatar and Pakistan, attempt to revive a previous understanding that expired last month. Rezaei's statements highlight the complexities of the conflict and the challenges of finding a peaceful resolution.
