The International Prison Chaplains Association, IPCA Ghana, recently celebrated its 10th anniversary, marking a decade of transforming lives of prison inmates. The event, held at the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT Hall) in Accra, brought together IPCA members from Ghana and representatives from neighboring countries, including Cote d'Ivoire, Togo, Benin, Congo, and Gabon. The theme of the celebration was "Breaking Chains, Building Hope – ten years of transforming lives." The occasion was graced by the International Vice President of IPCA Worldwide, Hon Rev Jean Didier Mboyo, and IPCA Denmark Chair, Chaplain, Mrs Louise Lysholm.

According to the Founding Chairman of IPCA Ghana, Rev. Steve Mensah, the organization's prison ministry is a fulfillment of Jesus Christ's teachings in the Bible. He noted that Jesus Christ identified with prisoners because their conditions were likened to a state of hopelessness. Over the past decade, IPCA Ghana has made significant achievements, including establishing medical support for inmates, facilitating educational initiatives, and providing nutritional assistance. The organization also provided TV sets and dishes during the COVID-19 pandemic, enabling inmates to access gospel and educational programs.

IPCA Denmark Chair, Chaplain, Mrs Louise Lysholm, shared strategies to reduce recidivism and improve prison conditions in Denmark. She emphasized that it was essential to work on the conscience of inmates when they were brought in, as it was damaging for people to be convicted. The Director-General of the Ghana Prison Service, Mrs Patience Baffoe-Bonnie, commended the leadership and members of IPCA Ghana for their dependable and supportive partnership. She noted that while many people shunned the company of prisoners, IPCA Ghana solidly stepped in to lend its support.

A leading member of IPCA Ghana, Dcns Dr Mrs Angela Tena Mensah, coordinated the presentation of awards to outstanding individuals, including the Founding Chair of IPCA Ghana, Rev. Steve Mensah, and the Director-General of Ghana Prison Service, Mrs Patience Baffoe-Bonnie. The awards recognized their roles in the growth and development of the association.
