The Evanna Empowerment Initiative (EEI) has recently concluded a two-day drive across Lagos, Owerri, Abuja, and Abeokuta, providing essential baking materials to over 100 bakers. The initiative aimed to support the craft of baking by supplying participants with margarine, cake icing, sugar, and a range of other baking supplies. This event is part of EEI's continued efforts to train and support bakers and small enterprise owners across Lagos.
According to Founder/Executive Director of EEI, Grace Ilesanmi, the drive is a direct extension of her own path into baking and a practical investment in the futures of the bakers who took part. Ilesanmi emphasized that baking is what brought her to where she is, but teaching others to bake is what keeps her going. She believes that by providing real materials directly into a baker's hands, the initiative is investing in a skill they will carry for the rest of their working life.
EEI's baking and confectionery classes run free yearly from February to October, open to anyone aged 15 and older. The classes provide hands-on training in bread, pastries, small chops, and other baking skills. In October, EEI will welcome its next cohort of students, offering them the opportunity to learn from experienced professionals in the industry.
In addition to the baking classes, Grace Ilesanmi will also host Ogba Bakers Connect, a meet-and-greet bringing together bakers from across Lagos with established names in the industry. The event aims to share practical insights from experienced bakers' own kitchens, providing a platform for networking and learning.
