The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Taraba State has announced plans to display the National Register of Voters and collect Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) across the state's 168 Registration Areas. This move aims to promote transparent, credible, and inclusive electoral processes. The announcement was made in Jalingo, with INEC reaffirming its commitment to ensuring eligible citizens are properly captured in the electoral register.

According to INEC, the exercise will run from Friday, October 9, to Friday, October 16, 2026. During this period, voters who registered, transferred their registration, or requested replacement of lost PVCs between August and December 2025 will be able to verify their details and collect their cards. The commission has urged registered voters to visit their designated Registration Areas to verify their names and other details on the voters' register.

The display of the voters' register and PVC collection will take place simultaneously across all 168 wards in the state. INEC has encouraged voters to use this opportunity to raise claims or objections where necessary. The exercise will be conducted daily from 9am to 3pm throughout the stipulated period. This move is expected to ensure that eligible citizens are properly captured in the electoral register and able to participate in forthcoming elections.

INEC has called on eligible citizens, community leaders, political parties, and civil society organisations to take advantage of the exercise by verifying their details and collecting their PVCs. The commission has also appealed to residents and stakeholders across Taraba State to cooperate with its officials to ensure a smooth and successful exercise.

After the exercise, PVC collection will revert to the commission's Local Government Area offices. INEC has assured that other PVCs will be made available for collection once they are received by the Taraba State office from its headquarters in Abuja. This move is expected to enhance the credibility and transparency of the electoral process in Taraba State.

The commission's Head of Voter Education and Publicity, Ngunan Rachael Iyongo, signed the statement on behalf of the Resident Electoral Commissioner. INEC's initiative aims to engage eligible citizens in the electoral process, ensuring that their details are accurate and up-to-date. By doing so, the commission seeks to promote a more inclusive and participatory electoral environment.

The exercise is a critical step towards ensuring the integrity of the electoral register and enhancing voter participation in Taraba State. INEC's efforts are geared towards creating a more transparent and accountable electoral process, which is essential for democratic governance. The commission's commitment to this process underscores its dedication to upholding the principles of democracy.
