The Industries chimiques du Sénégal (ICS) has announced plans to establish units for transforming agricultural and market garden products in six communes in 2027. This decision was made public by Mama Sougoufara, the company's director-general, in Darou Khoudoss, a town in western Senegal. The six communes set to benefit from this initiative are Darou Khoudoss, Mboro, Méouane, Pire, and Taïba Ndiaye, all located in the Thiès region, and Mbao in the Dakar region.

The units are expected to enhance the production capacity and product quality of women in these areas, according to Mama Sougoufara. The initiative is part of the ICS's program for women's economic empowerment, which has already provided training to 1,190 women. The director-general expressed his satisfaction with the encouraging results shown by these women nine months after their training, highlighting their potential, skills, and willingness to undertake entrepreneurial ventures.

The decision to establish these transformation units follows requests from the communes concerned and is in line with the requirements and needs expressed by the local communities. The ICS took into account suggestions made by the beneficiary women, ensuring that the new units will address their specific needs and enhance their livelihoods. This move is also expected to foster collaboration between the ICS and local municipalities.

Mama Sougoufara emphasized the importance of transforming the knowledge acquired by the women into concrete projects and enterprises that can generate employment and income. He assured the beneficiaries that the ICS will continue to work alongside them, supporting their endeavors and contributing to the development of their communities. The company's commitment to social responsibility is reflected in its collaboration with local entities and organizations.

The ICS's initiative has been welcomed by local communities and organizations, including the Alliance pour le consommer local and the association "Women in Mining". These partnerships highlight the company's efforts to engage with stakeholders and promote sustainable development in the regions where it operates. By supporting women's economic empowerment, the ICS aims to make a positive impact on the lives of its beneficiaries.

The establishment of these transformation units is also expected to improve living conditions in the six communes where they will be located. The ICS has already provided assistance to the relocated villages of Ndary and Tissé, demonstrating its commitment to supporting local communities. The company's director-general expressed his gratitude to all partners involved in this initiative.

The ICS's women's economic empowerment program is part of its corporate social responsibility activities. The company remains committed to working with local authorities and communities to promote sustainable development and improve the livelihoods of its beneficiaries. With this initiative, the ICS is contributing to the economic empowerment of women in Senegal, enabling them to become more self-sufficient and entrepreneurial.
