A five-day medical camp is set to take place in Kinduni, North Unguja, from November 3 to 7, 2026, as part of the Afya Bora Maisha Bora (Good Health, Better Life) campaign's second phase. The campaign, led by the Zanzibar Maisha Bora Foundation (ZMBF), has already reached over 30,000 people across all five regions of Zanzibar since its launch in 2023. The ZMBF, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, will bring together over 100 medical professionals from Zanzibar and India to provide free healthcare services.

The medical camp will offer specialized services in various fields, including ophthalmology, dentistry, dermatology, cardiology, orthopaedics, maternal and child healthcare, ear, nose and throat (ENT), and urology. Additionally, residents will have access to screening for non-communicable diseases, such as hypertension and diabetes, as well as cervical and breast cancer screening for women. Other services will include routine immunization, antenatal care, youth-friendly reproductive health services, mental health support, life-skills education, and counseling.

The initiative will also provide diagnostic services and psychological support for survivors of gender-based violence, nutritional education, including the use of seaweed as a sustainable food source, and blood donation services to support local hospitals. The camp will be open daily from 8 am to 4 pm, and services will be provided free of charge. The ZMBF will use the Ministry of Health's electronic medical records system, Zan-EMR, to collect and store patients' information while safeguarding their privacy and confidentiality.

Patients diagnosed with conditions requiring specialized treatment will receive fully funded referrals arranged by ZMBF to major hospitals within the country or abroad, depending on their medical needs. The ZMBF aims to establish at least two medical camps annually through to 2029, with a target of 50,000 beneficiaries during the new phase. The foundation's Chief Executive Officer, Rehema Tukai, stated that the Kinduni camp marked the beginning of the initiative's second phase.

The North Unguja Regional Commissioner, Galos Nyimbo, has urged residents of North B District, the wider North Unguja Region, and neighboring regions to turn out for the camp. He encouraged residents to take advantage of the opportunity for early screening, noting that diagnostic services, medicines, and prescription glasses will be provided free of charge. The camp is open to all Zanzibar residents, regardless of where they live.

The campaign's main sponsor, Yas Manager, Mohamed Wakid Mohamed, stated that the company's participation was driven by its commitment to promoting positive social change and giving back to the community. Zanzibar's Minister for Health, Ahmed Nassor Mazrui, will officially open the camp on November 3. The camp will conclude on November 7 with a five-kilometre walk starting at 6 am at Kitope Grounds, led by First Lady Mama Mariam Mwinyi and Second Vice-President Hemed Suleiman Abdulla.

The ZMBF's board member and chairperson of the organizing committee, Makame Machano Haji, said that the camp would bring together over 100 healthcare professionals certified by the Ministry of Health, including specialists from India. He emphasized that the foundation would ensure that patients' information is collected and stored securely, while maintaining their privacy and confidentiality.
