The Nigeria Police Force has set out a comprehensive plan to ensure a peaceful and secure 2027 General Elections. At the recently concluded Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers (CARSPO 2026) in Owerri, Imo State, Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, outlined a six-pillar election-security roadmap. This plan aims to address emerging security challenges and strengthen collaboration with sister agencies and stakeholders.
The conference, coordinated by Lenders Consult International, brought together senior police officers and experts to examine operational strategies and refine their approach to election security. With the theme, “Developing a Nigeria Police Roadmap for Effective Management of Security During Elections,” the three-day conference focused on election security, technology, intelligence, public demonstrations, communication, and community partnership. The event was declared open by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting the Nigeria Police Force.
President Tinubu, represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, stressed the importance of professionalism, impartiality, intelligence-led operations, and effective inter-agency coordination. He assured the Force of continued support in training, technology, operational logistics, welfare, and institutional reforms. Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, welcomed the conference, highlighting its significance in addressing contemporary security challenges.
IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu outlined the six pillars of the election-security roadmap, which include strengthened intelligence and early-warning systems, intensive training and preparedness, joint command and inter-agency coordination, effective communication and deployment of technology, sustained community partnership, and absolute neutrality. The IGP linked the conference to the International Day of Peace, whose 2026 theme was “Invest in Peace: For Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day.”
