The International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, is providing long-term financing to PLP Properties Ltd. to support the development of a new hotel in Accra, Ghana. The 170-room Hampton by Hilton hotel is expected to provide 990 direct and indirect jobs, including 200 permanent positions. This project aims to expand the supply of internationally branded midscale accommodation in Accra.

Located near Accra International Airport, the Hampton by Hilton Accra Airport is poised to become Hilton's first hotel to open in Ghana and one of the first Hampton by Hilton properties in West Africa. The hotel's development is expected to support Ghana's tourism sector and its contribution to employment and economic activity. By strengthening hospitality infrastructure, the project will create new opportunities for local suppliers.

Jean-Louis Feghali, Executive Director of PLP Properties Ltd., emphasized that the vision for the hotel goes beyond building a typical hotel. He stated that Hampton by Hilton Accra Airport will strengthen Accra's hospitality offering, create jobs, support local suppliers, and serve business and leisure travelers. The company values IFC's support in helping deliver the project in line with international sustainability standards.

Nathalie Kouassi Akon, IFC Division Director for West Africa Gulf of Guinea, highlighted the importance of investment in quality, sustainable accommodation. She noted that IFC's partnership with PLP Properties will expand Accra's hospitality offering, strengthen demand for local goods and services, and promote more sustainable hotel development. The hotel is expected to source goods and services from Ghanaian businesses, including small and medium-sized enterprises.

The project is targeting EDGE Advanced certification, IFC's green building standard. The hotel is being designed to use at least 40 percent less energy and 20 percent less water than a conventional building, while also reducing embodied carbon in construction materials. These efficiencies are expected to lower operating costs and establish a stronger benchmark for resource-efficient development in Ghana's hospitality sector.

IFC's long-term financing will give the project sufficient time to complete construction and establish operations. This support is crucial for the hotel's success and will enable it to make a positive impact on Ghana's tourism sector. The hotel's development is a significant investment in Ghana's hospitality infrastructure and is expected to have a lasting impact on the local economy.

The IFC's investment in the Hampton by Hilton Accra Airport is a strategic move to support Ghana's economic growth. With its focus on sustainability and job creation, this project has the potential to make a positive impact on the local community. As the hotel nears completion, it is expected to become a major player in Accra's hospitality industry.
