The Ibassa Ijegun Egba Youth Association has launched a passenger boat to ferry pupils across waterways to schools in the riverine communities of Ibassa Ijegun Egba in Oriade Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Lagos State. This initiative aims to provide a safer and more reliable means of transportation for pupils, ensuring they can access education without facing significant challenges. The association's efforts focus on empowering the future through education.
The Chairman of the Ibassa Ijegun Egba Youth Association, Mr. Kareem Idowu, emphasized that the inauguration of the boat is not just about providing a new means of transportation but also about hope, dignity, and creating a safer passage to education. He highlighted that education is crucial for a brighter tomorrow and urged pupils to take their education seriously, respect their parents and teachers, and stay away from harmful influences.
The association's chairman expressed gratitude to their partners, including the Nigerian Ports Authority, Ijegun Egba Tank Farms Association, Medlog Transport and Logistics, Nigeria Ltd, AKT Lighting, and ATBOWATON, for their support. He also honored the memory of Alhaji Shafideen Kareem, a late sponsor whose contributions to the pupils will continue to have a positive impact.
The event was attended by various dignitaries, including the Director of the Ministry of Youth Development, Lagos State, Mr. Folasayo Olukosi, who represented the Commissioner for Youth Development and Social Services, Mr. Mobolaji Ogunlende. Olukosi commended the youths in the area for their initiative, stating that creating opportunities for youths is essential for their development.
Other attendees included the Supervisor for Agriculture, Oriade LCDA, Mr. Adewale Ojewusi, who represented the council Chairman, Mr. Rasak Olojede, and Alhaji Rauf Age-Sulaiman, the lawmaker representing Amuwo-Odofin Constituency 2 in the Lagos State House of Assembly. They advised the pupils to comport themselves and make the most of the opportunities provided.
The Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Lagos State chapter, Mr. Olalekan Adigun, emphasized the need for cooperation between community leaders, youths, and governments to support initiatives like the boat inauguration. The event also had in attendance the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Abdul Olayinka, Iyaloja General of Ijegun, Ibassa Egba, Alhaji Tawakalitu Balogun, as well as parents and guardians.
