The Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, Ahmed Ibrahim, has emphasised the need for stakeholders to collaborate and prioritise advancing the progressive growth of education in the Banda District. He made the call when he inspected construction works on some ongoing Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) educational projects at the Bandaman Senior High Technical School. The minister stressed that empowering young people with the requisite scientific and technological skills would transform the economic potential of the district and enhance the livelihoods of the people.
Mr Ibrahim, also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Banda Constituency, noted that the Banda district had deliberately prioritised secondary and technical education to provide students with practical skills. These skills include electrical installation, carpentry, building, and other technical disciplines. The minister inspected various ongoing projects, including a dining hall and kitchen, two-storey dormitory blocks, and a three-storey classroom block. He expressed satisfaction with the progress of work and encouraged stakeholders to support the completion of the projects.
The minister highlighted the importance of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education in the district. He noted that the construction of a modern science laboratory would enhance science education and position the school among the top Senior High Schools (SHSs) in the country. Mr Ibrahim also stressed the need to strengthen basic education to ensure that pupils acquired a solid foundation for further education.
During the inspection, Mr Ibrahim expressed confidence that with the interventions being put in place, the district would produce one of the best SHSs in the country within the next five to 10 years. He emphasised that stakeholders could not afford to remain unconcerned about the development of education in the area, stressing that the time to invest in training the human resource development of the district was now.
Tolee Pe Aboatia II, the Acting President of the Banda Traditional Council, expressed gratitude to the MP for his efforts towards improving quality education in the area. He noted that the people in the area had faced significant challenges in accessing SHS education in the past, but the situation had changed now. The traditional leader stressed the people's dedication to supporting the government to facilitate the holistic development of the area.
Tolee Aboatia II also called on the people to contribute their quota towards improving the growth and development of education. He noted that the MP and the government alone could not shoulder the progressive development of the area and that collective effort was required. The traditional leader expressed optimism that with the support of stakeholders, the district would achieve its education goals.
The ongoing educational projects in the Banda District are part of the government's efforts to improve education in the area. The projects include the construction of a three-storey classroom block, a two-storey science laboratory block, and a two-storey administration and library block. The projects are expected to enhance the educational experience of students in the district and provide them with the skills required to compete in the global economy.
