The Hohoe Municipal Assembly in the Volta Region of Ghana has taken a significant step to empower Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) by presenting economic empowerment items to 132 individuals. This initiative aims to improve the livelihoods of PWDs in the municipality. The items distributed include deep freezers, fufu-pounding machines, wooden tabletop kiosks, sterilisers, and an air compressor. This gesture demonstrates the government's commitment to enhancing the welfare of PWDs.

Mrs. Gizella Tetteh-Agbotui, Member of Parliament for the Awutu Senya West Constituency and Deputy Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, highlighted the government's dedication to improving the welfare of PWDs. She cited the increase in the disability component of the District Assemblies Common Fund to five per cent as evidence of this commitment. Mrs. Tetteh-Agbotui encouraged the beneficiaries to utilize the items effectively and maintain them in good condition.

Mr. Prosper Kumi, Hohoe Municipal Chief Executive, emphasized that the government and the Assembly recognize the vital role PWDs play in nation-building. He mentioned that the items were distributed in batches to ensure all beneficiaries were adequately catered for. Mr. Kumi expressed hope that the beneficiaries would use the support to enhance their livelihoods.

Mr. Thomas Worlanyo Tsekpo, Member of Parliament for Hohoe, noted that it was encouraging to see previous beneficiaries making good use of the items they received. He urged the current beneficiaries to emulate them and assured that the government would continue to prioritize the needs of PWDs nationwide, including those in the Hohoe Municipality.

The Hohoe Municipal Assembly has taken measures to ensure the items are used for their intended purposes. Mr. Henry Yanpalleh, Hohoe Municipal Director of Social Welfare and Community Development, stated that the Department would follow up on the beneficiaries to verify the proper use of the items. The Assembly had embossed the items, and beneficiaries were cautioned against selling them.

The distribution of these economic empowerment items is part of the government's efforts to enhance the socio-economic status of PWDs. By providing these tools, the government aims to create opportunities for PWDs to engage in income-generating activities, thereby improving their overall well-being.

The event saw the presence of various stakeholders, including government officials, community leaders, and representatives from the Hohoe Municipal Assembly. The beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the support and pledged to make the most of the items to improve their livelihoods. This initiative is expected to have a positive impact on the lives of PWDs in the Hohoe Municipality.
