High Chief Higgins Peters, the Akpa’Owo 1 of Yala and CEO of Opal Group Limited, has been invested as the Lifetime Grand Patron of the Yala United Forum (YUF). This recognition is for his sustained contributions to the unity, development, and advancement of Yala and Cross River North. The honour was conferred on him during a courtesy visit to his corporate office in Abuja by the YUF leadership.
The Coordinator of the Yala United Forum, Dr Chris Oko Odey, stated that Peters' record of service, philanthropy, leadership, and commitment to the collective advancement of his people made him worthy of the distinguished recognition. Odey emphasized that Peters has consistently demonstrated leadership beyond personal, political, and sectional considerations.

The YUF coordinator particularly recalled the 2026 Yala Annual New Yam Festival, also known as Ihi’Onipipe, which gained an unprecedented profile with the attendance of the Governor of Cross River State, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, his Deputy, Hon. Peter Odey, and other prominent leaders. Peters' support and interventions significantly contributed to the festival's success and visibility.
The presence of the governor and other eminent personalities at the festival demonstrated the enormous possibilities that could be unlocked when the people of Yala unite around their common heritage and aspirations. Odey stressed that the festival was a defining moment for the people, showing what Yala can achieve when differences are put aside and people work together.
