Volta Regional Minister, Mr. Jame Gunu, has donated GHS 10,000 to Ghana's beach soccer team, the Black Sharks, to support their preparation for the Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Nigeria. The donation was presented at the team's training ground in Keta by a delegation led by Mr. Gabriel Dzikunu, the Assembly Member for Keta Central. This gesture aims to boost the team's morale and readiness for the upcoming match.

The Black Sharks are set to face Nigeria in the AFCON qualifier, with the first leg scheduled for October 11 in Nigeria and the return leg on October 18 at the Keta Emancipation Beach Soccer Arena. Mr. Gunu expressed confidence in the team's abilities, recalling their previous victory against Côte d'Ivoire in a qualifier some years ago. He urged the community to rally behind the team and attend the return leg in large numbers to show their support.

The team's Chairman, Mr. Yaw Kusi Gyamfi Aware, received the donation on behalf of the team and thanked Mr. Gunu, as well as the chiefs and elders of the Volta Region, for their love and passion for beach soccer. He noted that the Minister had consistently shown willingness to support the sport and disclosed that the committee had reached out to Mr. Gunu 72 hours prior to explain the team's challenges.

Mr. Aware assured Mr. Gunu that the team would work hard to ensure beach soccer remains a prominent sport in the region. He expressed confidence that the Black Sharks would secure a win in Nigeria and seal their victory at home on October 18. The team has been training in Keta, and Mr. Aware invited the public to visit the training ground to motivate the players.

The Black Sharks' preparation for the match has been ongoing, with the team expected to hold their last training session on October 7 before departing for Nigeria on October 8. Mr. Aware emphasized that the players were mentally, physically, and spiritually prepared for the challenge ahead. He also appealed to individuals and organizations to donate to the team to aid their preparations.

In addition to the Minister's donation, Mr. Aware called on fans from other regions, particularly Accra, to travel to Keta on October 18 to support the Black Sharks. He expressed confidence that the home crowd would turn out in force to cheer the team on. Meanwhile, the Super Sand Eagles of Nigeria are set to host the Black Sharks on October 10 in Lagos, Nigeria, in a preparatory match.
