Gunmen have killed Paul Danladi, a youth leader and former chairman of the Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM) in Gashish District of Plateau State. According to the BYM, Mr Danladi was killed around 6 p.m. on Wednesday near Rantis Village along the Gashish-Barkin Ladi road while riding his motorcycle to Barkin Ladi. The association confirmed the killing in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Rwang Tengwong, on Thursday in Jos.
The BYM described Mr Danladi as a respected community leader and condemned his killing. The association called on security agencies to investigate the incident and arrest those responsible. The killing of Mr Danladi is the latest in a series of attacks on communities and travellers in parts of Plateau State, particularly in Barkin Ladi, Riyom and Jos South Local Government Areas.
In addition to Mr Danladi's killing, the BYM reported two other attacks in parts of Plateau State on Wednesday. Two people were injured in the attacks, with one person sustaining serious injuries in an attack around Gwom-Ajang in Foron. The victim was taken to the Jos University Teaching Hospital for treatment. Another victim, identified as Mafeng Lamba, was injured along Sho Road and taken to a hospital for treatment.
The BYM also alleged that Bitrus Dadon was attacked along the same road and had his motorcycle stolen. The association urged the Plateau State Government, police, Nigerian Army, Department of State Services and other security agencies to strengthen surveillance and intelligence gathering around vulnerable communities and roads.
The association called for a proactive security response to prevent further attacks and protect residents. The BYM's concerns come amid continued attacks on communities and travellers in parts of Plateau State. The incidents have raised concerns over the security situation in the state.
Efforts to obtain confirmation from security agencies were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report. The circumstances surrounding Mr Danladi's killing and the identities and motives of the attackers could not be independently established. The BYM's statement is the only official account of the incident.
The killing of Mr Danladi and the injuries sustained by two others have highlighted the need for improved security measures in Plateau State. The state government and security agencies have been urged to take steps to prevent further attacks and protect residents.
