Gunmen have ambushed and killed a security operative attached to Plateau Operation Rainbow in Plateau State, Nigeria. The incident occurred along the Gagshi Road on the evening of September 23, 2026. According to Dalyop Mwantiri, President of the Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM), he narrowly escaped the incident. Mwantiri expressed concern over the worsening insecurity in the state, stating that attacks now occur in broad daylight.
The ambush is the latest in a series of violent incidents in Plateau State. Three civilians were also reportedly killed in a separate incident at Rakok in Barkin Ladi Local Council Area of the state. The victims included two unidentified women who were killed during the funeral of two persons allegedly killed the previous day during a trip to Gashish District. A community source, Mr Lawrence Gyang, confirmed the incident.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the state Police Command, Alfred Alabo, said he was yet to receive any official report on the mining pit collapse incident. He noted that miners often fail to report such incidents to the police. The incident has raised concerns about the safety of miners in the state.
