The Siguiri Central Police Commissariat announced on October 2, 2026, that they had dismantled a suspected network involved in several armed attacks in the Siguiri prefecture and surrounding areas. The operation resulted in the seizure of an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and 11 rounds of ammunition. According to the police, the network was responsible for a surge in crime in the region, including several attacks that resulted in victims and significant losses of money, gold, and motorcycles.

One of the alleged victims, Elhadj Mamoudou Magassouba, was attacked at his home in the Victoria neighborhood. He recounted that three armed individuals surprised him at his home after evening prayers, demanding money. When he claimed he had none, they searched his home and found a bag containing 170 million Guinean francs. The assailants also took his Haojue motorcycle and several phones. Magassouba reported the incident to the police, leading to the eventual dismantling of the network.

The police arrested Badjigui Kouyaté, alias "Sa, le Serpent," who is believed to be one of the main suspects in the network. According to the police, Kouyaté was involved in several attacks between August and September, including the August 26 attack on Magassouba's home. Other individuals cited in the case include Kassim Traoré, alias Elpa, Laye Moukhtar Camara, alias Soula, Kissi Koïta, Cedou Diallo, Ibrahima Kouyaté, alias Ibé, Souleymane Koulibaly, and Magandjan Kamara, alias Pelé.

During interrogation, Kouyaté provided details on the network's modus operandi, stating that he was contacted by Kassim Traoré, alias Elpa, about an operation targeting a man and his boss. Kouyaté claimed that the group, consisting of seven men and one woman, carried out several attacks, including one where they stole 12 million Guinean francs and 50 grams of gold.

The police recovered an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and 11 rounds of ammunition during the operation. The suspects' statements provided information on their alleged roles in various attacks, including reconnaissance, mobilization, transportation, and reception of stolen goods. The Siguiri Central Police Commissariat stated that the individuals involved would be brought before the parquet of the Siguiri Tribunal de première instance.

The suspects face charges of association of malefactors, armed robbery, voluntary assault and battery, and illicit possession of war weapons. The case is now in the hands of the judiciary, which will examine the evidence and establish the responsibilities of each individual involved.

The dismantling of the suspected network is a significant achievement for the Guinea police, who have been working to combat a surge in crime in the Siguiri region. The police operation was supported by several units, including the BAC 21, BSIB, and CMS 15.
