A political pressure group, Grassroots 121 Action, has set a target of 200,000 votes for Oyo State Governor and Allied Peoples Movement presidential candidate, Seyi Makinde, in the 2027 election. The group has inaugurated 5,000 polling-unit canvassers in Ekiti State to achieve this goal. The canvassers will lead grassroots mobilization across the state’s 2,445 polling units. This initiative aims to establish a strong grassroots network ahead of the 2027 presidential poll.
The Convener of Grassroots 121 Action, Lanre Fajuyi, disclosed the details of the initiative in a statement in Ado Ekiti. Fajuyi noted that the group’s operational structure covers all 16 local government areas of Ekiti State. The newly inaugurated Unit Coordinators and Assistant Unit Coordinators are expected to engage voters directly. They will identify key community issues and sustain mobilisation efforts across every polling unit.
The 200,000-vote target is part of a broader strategy to mobilize support for Makinde in the 2027 presidential election. Fajuyi emphasized that this goal is not a declaration to be made and forgotten; it is a responsibility that requires organisation, commitment, and sustained engagement at the grassroots. The group’s campaign will focus on voter education and political participation.
The inauguration of the canvassers marks the start of long-term mobilization across Ekiti State. Grassroots 121 Action also criticised the economic policies of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, alleging that they have heightened financial strain on Nigerians. The group noted that the present administration’s policies have imposed significant economic pressures on ordinary Nigerians and contributed to increasing hardship and declining purchasing power.
The group described the Federal Government’s interventions on poverty, unemployment, food insecurity, and the rising cost of living as inadequate. Fajuyi further stated that their advocacy for Makinde is part of a broader political conversation about the direction of the country ahead of the 2027 presidential election. The group’s efforts aim to address the concerns of Nigerians and promote a more inclusive and equitable society.
The initiative has sparked interest among political observers, who are watching to see how the group’s efforts will unfold. With a clear target of 200,000 votes, Grassroots 121 Action is determined to make a significant contribution to Makinde’s presidential campaign. The group’s focus on voter education and political participation is also expected to have a positive impact on the electoral process in Ekiti State.
