A social and cultural group, Ogbakha-Edo Indigenous People Welfare Foundation, has expressed sadness over the progressive relegation of the Benin people in Edo State and Nigeria. The group cited declining values that once held together the Benin nation. In a communique, the Foundation attributed the situation to factors within the Benin society, including lack of collective action and pursuit of individual interests.

The Ogbakha-Edo Foundation identified unhealthy competition and a diminishing sense of history, identity and collective self-worth as factors responsible for the situation. The group emphasized that urgent action is needed to address these challenges. According to Prof. Sam Guobadia, chairman, and Dr. O. A. Izekor, secretary-general, collective action and unity are crucial for advancing the common interests of the Benin people.

The Foundation resolved to embark on an extensive orientation and enlightenment campaign among the Benin people. The campaign will focus on the importance of cooperation, unity and collective action. The group also plans to encourage dialogues to provide leadership for a sustained campaign. This initiative aims to promote cooperation and collective action in the overall interest of the Benin people.

Ogbakha-Edo plans to launch a sustained campaign for the rediscovery and restoration of the cherished Benin personality. This personality is founded on dignity, discipline, industry, enterprise, courage, integrity, communal responsibility and respect for history. The Foundation believes that this campaign will help restore the collective strength of the Benin people.

The Foundation emphasized that individual aspirations and achievements are not incompatible with collective advancement. It encouraged the Benin people to recognize that the progress of one person should be regarded as an opportunity for the advancement of others. This approach aims to promote healthy competition and cooperation among the Benin people.

Ogbakha-Edo called on all Benin sons and daughters to rise above personal differences and narrow individual interests. The group urged them to embrace a renewed spirit of cooperation, mutual respect and collective responsibility. This call to action aims to promote unity and collective action among the Benin people.

The Foundation's initiatives aim to address the challenges confronting the Benin nation. The group believes that restoration of collective strength must begin with the Benin people themselves. While acknowledging that external circumstances may contribute to the difficulties, Ogbakha-Edo emphasized that collective action and unity are essential for progress.
