Gold Fields Ghana Limited, through its Foundation, has made a significant donation of 90 electricity transformers to enhance power supply in its host communities in the Western Region. The transformers, valued at GH¢1,098,583, aim to address the growing electricity demands of households, businesses, and public facilities. This initiative is part of the company's efforts to support essential community infrastructure and improve the well-being of its host communities.

The beneficiary communities include Samahu, Abekoase, Benso, Awudua, and Tarkwa Boso (TnA) Stadium in the Tarkwa Nsuaem and Prestea Huni-Valley municipalities. The TnA stadium, for instance, received a 500 kVA transformer to ensure a more reliable electricity supply for its operations and sporting activities. This donation is in line with Gold Fields Ghana Foundation's broader community development portfolio, which has invested over US$ 113.20 million in education, health, water and sanitation, enterprise development, and infrastructure.

According to Eliot Twum, Gold Fields Ghana Senior Vice President and Managing Director, the donation reaffirms the company's commitment to sustainable community development. The company is working with relevant stakeholders to address infrastructure needs, promote local economic growth, and improve the well-being of people in its host communities. This initiative is a testament to Gold Fields Ghana's dedication to supporting the development of its host communities.

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) Tarkwa District Manager, Odame Thompson, has expressed gratitude to Gold Fields Ghana Foundation for the donation. He noted that the new transformers would enhance electricity supply and reduce the load on the local power grid. Thompson also advised the beneficiary communities to avoid unauthorized connections, which could overload and damage the new transformers.

Members of Parliament (MP) for Tarkwa Nsuaem and Prestea Huni-Valley constituencies, Issah Salifu Taylor and Robert Wisdom Cudjoe, respectively, have commended Gold Fields Ghana Foundation for its generosity. They appealed to residents to help protect the transformers from theft and ensure long-term benefit for the communities. The MPs acknowledged the significant impact of the donation on the lives of the people in the beneficiary communities.

The donation of the transformers is a strategic move by Gold Fields Ghana Limited to support the development of its host communities. The company's efforts to improve infrastructure and services in these communities demonstrate its commitment to corporate social responsibility. The beneficiary communities are expected to experience improved power supply, which will positively impact their economic and social activities.
