The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) has organised an Olympic Values Education Programme (OVEP) at the University of Ghana, Legon, engaging about 500 school children. The event, held on September 22, 2026, was part of the International Olympic Committee's global initiative to educate young people on Olympism values. The programme aims to expand Olympic values education in schools and communities across Ghana ahead of the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar.
The OVEP was held on the theme "Africa's First, Ghana's Moment!" to connect young Ghanaians to the historic Games while promoting character development through sport. Madam Fati Lily Soale, Chief Director of the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, addressed the students, encouraging them to embrace the values taught through sport. She emphasized that sport teaches excellence, friendship, and respect, which are essential for success in life.
Madam Soale highlighted the significance of the upcoming Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, noting that it would be the first time the event would be hosted in Africa. She stated that this achievement not only reflects Senegal's capabilities but also showcases the entire African continent's readiness to take its place in the global sporting landscape.
The Chief Director also noted that the Games presented a unique opportunity for Ghana to inspire a new generation of athletes who could go on to represent the nation and win medals on the international stage. She encouraged the students to remain dedicated, disciplined, and committed to their dreams, as their talents could open doors to a brighter future.
Madam Judith Ennin, Municipal Director of Education for Ayawaso West, commended the GOC for bringing the programme to the municipality and giving students the opportunity to benefit from Olympic education. She urged the participating students to showcase their talents and take advantage of opportunities that could help nurture their sporting potential.
Mohammed Muniru, Secretary-General of the GOC, urged the students to uphold the Olympic values of excellence, friendship, and respect, stressing that these principles could guide them to success in both sports and life. He assured participants that Ghana would be strongly represented at the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, scheduled from October 31 to November 13.
The GOC's initiative aims to inspire young Ghanaians to become future world champions, coaches, sports administrators, and leaders. The OVEP programme is part of the GOC's broader efforts to promote Olympic values education in schools and communities across Ghana, ensuring a strong representation at the 2026 Youth Olympic Games.
