The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) recently conducted a three-day road safety awareness campaign along the Tema-Akosombo Highway. The campaign, which took place from October 27 to 29, 2026, aimed to promote responsible driving and reduce accidents on the busy highway. Led by ADO II Okortor, the Kpong Fire Station team engaged motorists directly at strategic points, educating them on critical safety practices.
During the campaign, drivers were sensitized on the importance of speed management, seatbelt use, maintaining safe following distances, avoiding mobile phone distractions while driving, and exercising patience and courtesy on the road. The GNFS reported that the exercise received positive feedback from motorists, who welcomed the education and appreciated the proactive engagement.
The GNFS remains committed to sustained public education and collaboration with road users to prevent road crashes and protect lives and property. The service believes that by working together, they can reduce the number of accidents on the highway and promote a culture of road safety.
A 29-year-old tricycle rider, Naah Mashood, was recently sentenced to 14 years imprisonment with hard labour for defiling a three-year-old girl at Tiegber in the Wa Municipality.
