Ghana is set to host the Africa Virtual Asset Summit (AVAS) on November 2-3, 2026, at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City in Accra. The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) of Ghana is convening regulators, policymakers, and industry leaders to discuss the future of virtual assets and tokenisation in Africa. The summit's theme, "Tokenisation: Africa's Pathway Towards Building a Trusted, Inclusive and Innovative Virtual Asset Ecosystem," highlights the potential of tokenisation to unlock value in various assets.

The proposed Accra Declaration, a shared set of principles and recommendations, will be central to the summit's discussions. The declaration aims to guide the responsible development of virtual assets and tokenisation across the continent. Tokenisation, the digital representation of assets, offers opportunities to widen access to investment and improve the way assets are owned, transferred, and traded. Ghana is already exploring these opportunities through its regulatory sandbox, including applications involving gold and Treasury bills.

The summit will bring together securities regulators, central banks, finance ministries, financial intelligence units, stock exchanges, banks, asset managers, pension funds, insurers, virtual asset service providers, fintech companies, investors, legal practitioners, academics, and development partners. Keynote speakers include Finance Minister Hon. Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, Governor of the Bank of Ghana Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama, and SEC Director-General Dr. James Klutse Avedzi.

AVAS 2026 aims to move the conversation beyond possibilities towards practical outcomes, including policy recommendations, stronger dialogue between regulators and market participants, and cross-border partnerships to support responsible innovation. The summit will provide a platform for shaping the policies and partnerships needed to realise tokenisation's potential in Africa. As African economies explore new ways to mobilise capital and expand financial inclusion, the summit will discuss the role of tokenisation in achieving these goals.

The event is presented with the involvement of the Securities and Exchange Commission, Ghana, and registration information is available at www.avas2026.com. The summit's outcomes are expected to contribute to the development of credible virtual asset markets in Africa. By establishing common ground for responsible tokenisation, the summit aims to encourage cooperation among jurisdictions and support the growth of innovative virtual asset ecosystems.

The Africa Virtual Asset Summit will provide a unique opportunity for stakeholders to engage in discussions on the future of virtual assets and tokenisation in Africa. With a focus on practical outcomes and policy recommendations, the summit is expected to drive progress in the development of a trusted, inclusive, and innovative virtual asset ecosystem across the continent.

As the summit approaches, stakeholders are eagerly anticipating the discussions and outcomes that will shape the future of virtual assets and tokenisation in Africa. With a strong lineup of speakers and a clear focus on achieving practical outcomes, AVAS 2026 is set to be a significant event in the development of Africa's virtual asset ecosystem.
