Ghana's Ambassador to China, Kojo Bonsu, has initiated a programme to equip the country's youth with skills in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data science. The China-Ghana Youth AI Talent Development Programme was launched in Zhoukou, Henan Province, in partnership with APUS Technology Co., Ltd., a Beijing-based AI technology company, and Zhoukou Normal University. This initiative aims to create a network of young Ghanaian professionals capable of developing solutions to challenges in various sectors.
The programme offers full scholarship opportunities for students in China and Ghanaian students at home. Members of Ambassador Bonsu's GenZ AI Club in China will have onsite classes, while students in Ghana will join online to learn together. The initiative also includes internships with APUS Technology Co., Ltd. for practical job experience, enabling participants to build and grow their careers in AI.
Ambassador Bonsu emphasized that it is crucial for Ghana's youth not to be left behind in the AI revolution. He believes that by acquiring AI skills, young Ghanaians can develop solutions to challenges in agriculture, healthcare, education, and finance. The ambassador urged participants to become multipliers, returning home to share knowledge with other students, universities, and tech communities across Ghana.
The programme symbolizes a new kind of diplomacy, one that puts youth at the centre. It provides a young person from Kumasi, Tamale, or Accra with a chance to sit in a Chinese AI lab and dream of what they can build for Ghana. This initiative is set to create a lasting educational and technological bridge between Ghana and China.
The scholarship window for the programme is now open. During the one-year programme, APUS Technology Co., Ltd. will offer outstanding students both in China and Ghana internships and job contracts tailored to AI solutions for Ghana's economic development. This will enable participants to apply their skills in real-world settings and contribute to Ghana's growth.
The China-Ghana Youth AI Talent Development Programme is an outcome of Ambassador Bonsu's GenZ AI Club. The initiative aims to empower young Ghanaians with the skills and knowledge required to compete in the global AI industry. By doing so, it seeks to harness the potential of Ghana's youth to drive innovation and development in the country.
