Ghana's Golden Shuttlers have recently taken part in a Badminton World Federation (BWF) training and development camp held in Cairo, Egypt. The camp was part of ongoing efforts to improve the skills of players, coaches, and other stakeholders in badminton. The training sessions were led by BWF instructors, including Jang Yanmei, Coaches Development Officer; Tracy Tan, Assistant Development Manager; and Erica Khoo.

The camp brought together players and coaches from countries competing in the 2026 All Africa U-19 Badminton Championship and World Junior Championships. The programme began with a joint warm-up session, followed by skills and technique demonstrations on the court. Players were introduced to various aspects of the game, while coaches participated in dedicated sessions focused on strengthening their knowledge of player development.

Mental toughness was a key focus area during the training, with players encouraged to learn from previous setbacks, manage disappointment from losses, and develop a positive mindset for future challenges. As part of the BWF's Shuttle Time programme, participants also took part in an indoor session that highlighted the vision, mission, and opportunities within badminton.

The Shuttle Time initiative is part of the BWF's broader development efforts to grow the sport and create learning opportunities through badminton. The camp provided a platform for players to interact with colleagues from other countries, sharing memorable and challenging experiences in badminton. This fostered learning, networking, and cultural exchange among participants.

The training sessions were designed to cater to the needs of both players and coaches. While players honed their skills and techniques, coaches gained valuable insights into player development. The programme also highlighted the importance of mental toughness and a positive mindset in achieving success in badminton.

At the close of the programme, participants received BWF souvenirs and guidebooks to support their continued development and involvement in the sport. For Ghana's Golden Shuttlers, the Cairo camp offered more than just training; it provided an opportunity to gain new knowledge, build international connections, and develop important skills to complement their competitive experience.
