The Ghana Police Service, through its Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Special Operations Team, has conducted a series of intelligence-led operations targeting suspected criminal activities across various parts of Ghana. These operations, which took place between October 2 and 29, 2026, resulted in the arrest of 192 suspects. The exercises were aimed at curbing suspected criminal networks and improving public safety.
The operations covered several communities in the Greater Accra Region, including New Town, Dansoman, Weija, Tudu, James Town, Shukura, Okaishie, Lapaz, Chantan, Odawna, Teshie, Avenor, and Fadama. Teshie recorded the highest number of arrests in a single operation, with 102 suspects, comprising 93 males and nine females, picked up on October 22. During this operation, police recovered quantities of compressed dried substances suspected to be narcotic drugs.
The operations also led to the seizure of various items, including seven bottles of nitrous oxide and a bottle of Benylin with Codeine. Eight persons identified as key suspected narcotics peddlers were subsequently handed over to the Drug Law Enforcement Unit for further investigations. In another operation at Lapaz and Chantan on October 15, 41 suspects, including 35 males and six females, were arrested.
The crackdown extended to other areas, including Okaishie Drug Lane, where eight suspects were arrested on October 9, with police recovering suspected narcotic and pharmaceutical substances. Other operations at New Town, Dansoman, Weija, Tudu, James Town, and Odawna also resulted in arrests and the recovery of suspected narcotic substances, pharmaceutical products, and processing equipment.
At Odawna, a 52-year-old businessman, Richard Polo, was arrested following surveillance operations, with quantities of substances suspected to be cocaine and other narcotics retrieved from his hideout. The operations also extended to Fadama and Shukura on October 28 and 29, where two suspects, Douglas Kobby, 47, and Habib Yakubu, were arrested.
In a separate operation at Alabonu in Asutuare, three suspected members of a vigilante group were arrested and handed over to the Tema Regional Police Command for further investigations. The Special Operations Team also conducted operations in the Eastern Region, leading to four additional arrests and the recovery of a pump-action shotgun, ammunition, and substances suspected to be Indian hemp and Tramadol.
The Police Service said all the suspects were in custody assisting investigations, while efforts were underway to identify and arrest other persons suspected to be connected to the criminal activities.
