The Ghana Police Service recently concluded its 2025/2026 recruitment cycle, attracting approximately 390,000 applicants for a few thousand available positions. The recruitment process, which included an aptitude test, medical examination, and documentation, was highly competitive. Unfortunately, the government has announced that the recruitment portal will remain closed until further notice, with no fresh applications to be accepted in 2027.

To be eligible for the Ghana Police Service, applicants must meet specific requirements, including being a Ghanaian by birth, of good character, and having no criminal record. They must also meet the height requirement, which is 5 feet 8 inches (173cm) for males and 5 feet 4 inches (163cm) for females. Additionally, applicants must have five passes in BECE, including English and Mathematics, and be physically and medically fit by Police Service standards.

The application process for the Ghana Police Service is done through the Centralised Services E-Recruitment Portal (C-SERP) at cserpgh.com. Applicants must purchase a recruitment voucher via USSD (*713*03#) or at any GCB Bank branch before registering. The portal was open from 17 November 2025 to 19 December 2025, and over 100,000 applicants passed the aptitude test.

The selection process for the Ghana Police Service involves several stages, including documentation, body inspection, aptitude test, medical examination, and training. For the 2025/2026 cycle, the documentation and body inspection ran from 12 January to 4 February 2026, and applicants who passed this stage sat a written assessment with a pass mark of 65 percent.

According to Interior Minister Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, the decision to close the recruitment portal was made to prioritize candidates who had already completed the process but were not called for training due to limited space. The government intends to work through the existing backlog before accepting new applications, with the timing and size of the next intake depending on financial clearance and the availability of training facilities.

The Ghana Police Service currently has about 50,000 personnel against an estimated requirement of 70,000 to 80,000. Even with clearance for 20,000 or 30,000 recruits, training schools could not accommodate them all at once. Prospective applicants who missed the 2025/2026 cycle will have to wait for at least a year, with no confirmed date for when the portal might reopen.

The government has assured that the recruitment process is merit-based and designed to eliminate middlemen. The C-SERP system has made the process paperless, and applicants can track their progress online. Key points to note include the requirement for a recruitment voucher, the need to meet specific educational and physical requirements, and the highly competitive nature of the selection process.
